Jay D. Doherty
Jay Doherty serves as president of the City Club of Chicago, a 115 year-old, bipartisan, civic organization, widely recognized as Illinois' premier public affairs forum.
The City Club of Chicago has over 2,200 members and includes many of Illinois’ opinion makers.
Doherty also owns and operates his own public affairs firm in Chicago.
He has been retained for his experience and expertise in state, county and municipal government by a range of corporate concerns, including Commonwealth Edison/Exelon, AECOM USA, Inc., Centegra Health Systems, and IBM.
Doherty’s private sector clients enlist him to develop strategies for building and strengthening their relationships with governments, communities and other businesses.
In 1976, he joined Sargent Shriver's presidential campaign, beginning a long, close relationship with the Kennedy family. Doherty was recruited by the Kennedys to serve as Director of Communications for the Merchandise Mart and later as the family's "point man" for fundraising and public appearances in Illinois, a post he still holds.
He is a 1975 graduate of Marquette University, where he served as president of the student government.
Doherty and his wife, Colleen, live in Chicago and are the proud parents of three sons and a daughter.
